History
Henry’s pub Kuopio was opened on boxing day 1970. The fresh entrepreneur Heikki Pesonen – loyal to his style – arrived to the opening ceremony by a horse ride.
Now – almost 50 years later – we can easily quote Mr J. Walker: ”still going strong”. Henry’s pub was a success straight away. For the locals it quickly developed into a ”living room”, which unfortunately because of strict finnish alcohol laws had to be shut down for the early hours of the day.
Henry’s pub has always been a melting pot of culture for the town.
In the early days as a meeting point for the local artists and LTBTQ-community, from 1989 also as an active venue. We have always tried to find a balance between having the popular name bands, but still offering opportunities for the fresh local bands to show their talents. Kuopio-based bands like Tarot, Verjnuarmu, Turmion kätilöt and most recently Block buster have all headed to international limelights from our small stage.
Tampere got their Henry’s pub in 1997, San Diego got theirs in 2000 and the fourth one was opened to Helsinki in 2006.
